Using evidence-based design principles, Carlie and her colleagues collaborated with an interior designer and chose a theme they dubbed “edge of the forest”.

The design’s palette uses our west coast’s natural and calming tones of greens, blues, whites, greys and browns. Graphic icons on wayfinding and other signage will distinguish patient areas (represented by a mountain) from staff work spaces (represented by trees).

“We wanted to create a clean, minimalistic environment, that’s light, bright and airy,” says Rhonda Richards, patient services coordinator, Perioperative Care Centre.

It’s no wonder almost 75 per cent of staff and physicians recently surveyed say they’re excited to work in our new perioperative suite in 2021.
