Could surgery feel like a walk in the park? Vancouver General Hospital staff and physicians are planning on it.

“We’re fortunate to live and work in one of the most beautiful cities in the world. We’re surrounded by the ocean and mountains and we want to bring the beauty of the province indoors,” says Carlie King-Hilliard.

The perioperative nurse clinician is one of a team of nurses, anesthesiologists, surgeons and leaders who’ve collaborated on the interior design for the new perioperative suite under construction at VGH. On schedule to open in January 2021, the suite will add 16 universal operating rooms, a 40-bed pre- and post-operative care unit and much more to our Phil and Jennie Gaglardi Surgical Centre for better access to surgical care.

“We’re focused on creating an inviting, calming and caring environment for patients, families, staff and learners,” says Carlie.
